By Ceci Connolly Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius accepted President Obama's nomination to become Health and Human Services Secretary this afternoon, according to administration officials. Sebelius will replace former senator Thomas A. Daschle, who withdrew from consideration last month. "This evening, the President asked Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius to serve as his Secretary of Health and Human Services, and she accepted," one administration official said. "The President will formally announce the nomination on Monday afternoon at the White House." Several Democratic sources said, however, that it is less likely the moderate Democrat will be offered the job of director of a new White House Office of Health Reform, a post Daschle had negotiated for himself as a way to increase his influence in the new administration. Sebelius, the 60-year-old daughter of a former Ohio governor, served as state Insurance Commissioner before winning the 2002 governor's race. She is halfway through a

By Michael A. Fletcher Saying his administration has done more in the past 30 days to advance "progressive change" than has been done in many years, President Obama touted his early record to a meeting of black leaders in Los Angeles. In remarks prepared for delivery over a video link to the 2009 "State of the Black Union" conference, Obama said that his administration's efforts to expand health care, make college more affordable, reduce taxes for lower income Americans, and stimulate the slumping economy would make a big difference among African-Americans. "You know that tough times for America often mean tougher times for African-Americans," Obama said. "This recession has been no exception. The unemployment rate among black Americans is a full five points higher than the rate among Americans as a whole." As a candidate for president, Obama has run into some criticism for past decisions to skip the annual

By Garance Franke-Ruta The first Saturday presidential address on Jan. 24 was made available at the White House as a YouTube file. But by the next week, on Jan. 31, an administration whose innovative use of YouTube videos had helped propel it into the White House quietly began offering video of President Obama through Vimeo, as well -- and in so doing began a low-key push back at the near-total dominance of Google-owned YouTube in the political video market. A video-sharing social media site that offers standard and high-definition video options, Vimeo was founded before YouTube, in 2004. But a series of pointed editorial choices has kept the company small while YouTube, founded in 2005, exploded into national consciousness over the next few years. Instead of becoming a cultural byword for online video, Vimeo became a niche favorite among artists and other creative types, particularly in the New York area,

2/28/09: Your Weekly Address from White House on Vimeo By Michael A. Fletcher President Obama today served notice that he is prepared to battle for his $3.6 trillion budget proposal, as he linked the priorities laid out in the spending plan to the promise of change that was at the core of his presidential campaign. Speaking in his weekly radio and video address, Obama called on Congress to pass the budget he outlined on Thursday, saying it represents the "change the American people voted for in November." He also warned that the spending plan would face fierce opposition from some lobbyists and some members of Congress because it "represents a threat to the status quo in Washington." Obama predicted that many of his proposals -- including measures requiring insurers to bid competitively to offer health care coverage under Medicare, a plan to end $30 billion of tax breaks for oil
